Surf's Up!

I love the ocean, especially around 7pm on a summer night. That's when the beaches are much less crowded, the air is cooler and there's just a peace that settles over things. I suspect it's quite nice very early in the morning also, but I just can't get out of bed to verify. Maybe this project will inspire you to visit and verify for yourself that the beach really is a special place.

Measurements (full list of supplies at the bottom of post)

  • Thick Basic White card base (5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored in half at 4-1/4")
  • Pacific Point cardstock (large scrap)
  • Shimmery White cardstock (at least 3" x 5-1/2")
  • Tahitian Tide cardstock (at least 3" x 5-1/2")
  • Basic Gray cardstock (small scraps)
Directions
  1. Create an abstract background on the Shimmery White using the Smoosh Technique (see last week's post). I used Coastal Cabana, Bermuda Bay and Pacific Point on mine. Allow to dry completely.
  2. Apply adhesive sheet over the back of the Shimmery White and the Tahitian Tide layers and run each through the Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine using the two wave images from the Waves dies. You can use Tombow Liquid Glue if you prefer.
  3. Adhere both waves on top of the scrap of Pacific Point and fussy cut it out.
  4. Die cut the clouds from the Masking Paper using the images found in the Waves dies. De-tack them a bit and then apply where you want the clouds on our card.
  5. Using a Blending Brush and Balmy Blue ink pad, apply color to the majority of the card base. Remove cloud masks when done.
  6. Adhere wave, leaving a gap on the left, bottom and right. This gives the appearance of another layer, even though there isn't one.
  7. Die cut three seagulls from Basic Gray cardstock and adhere to card base as desired.
  8. Stamp sentiment using Pacific Point ink.
  9. Add rhinestones if desired.
Here's the video for those of you who prefer to watch the project being created.
