Everything's Coming up Zinnias!

It's been a mild winter in Maine. Spring still isn't officially here, although I heard a meteorologist say that "meteorological winter" has ended. Yup, that's a thing. Meteorological Winter is the coldest three months of the year. Hmmm. Okay, whatever. So, where was I? Oh yeah, spring is either here or on the way. And on March 5th, Stampin' Up! is releasing new products in the Online Exclusives section of the store. These items won't appear in any catalog, they can only be found online. One of the new products is the Flowering Zinnias 12"x12" DSP.

Measurements

  • Melon Mambo cardstock: 5-1/2" x 8-1/2",  two 1-1/2" x 3", scraps*
  • Basic White cardstock: 1-7/8" x 5-3/8", small circle/rectangle for sentiment
  • Flowering Zinnias DSP
    • Flowers on white pattern: you'll fussy cut
    • Green diagonal stripes pattern: 1-7/8" x 2-5/8" (you'll need four)
    • Melon Mambo floral pattern: 1-7/8" x 2-5/8" (you'll need three), 1-7/8" x 1/2" (you'll need two)
  • Paper butterfly accents (need two of the smaller butterflies)
  • *Window Sheet (instead of Melon Mambo scraps): two 1/2" x 2-1/2"
Directions
  1. On the long side of the 5-1/2" x 8-1/2" Melon Mambo cardstock, score at 2", 4", 6" and 8".
  2. Turn and score at 2-3/4".
  3. Fold and burnish on all score lines EXCEPT the  horizontal (2-3/4") score line near the tabbed end.
  4. Cut on the 2", 4", 6" and 8" score lines, only up to the horizontal score line.
  5. Remove the 1/2" tab as shown in the diagram and miter the adjacent tab on each end.
  6. Apply adhesive to the remaining tab and form into a box.
  7. Score 1/2" from BOTH ends of the 1-1/2" x 3" pieces, on the long sides. Fold and burnish score lines.
  8. Adhere the four green diagonal striped DSP pieces to the flaps (the part that is exposed when the box is open).
  9. Adhere the 1-7/8" x 1/2" strips of the Melon Mambo pattern to the top and bottom of the Basic White layer, then adhere that to the back of the box (side that did not get burnished in Step 3).
  10. Adhere the Melon Mambo floral pieces to the remaining bottom sections of the box.
  11. Apply adhesive to the 1/2" tabs and insert these bridge pieces into the box. The top of the bridge will align with the top of the uncut portion. Space them as you wish, but at the 1/3 mark works pretty well.
  12. Cut a 2" circle from the Melon Mambo scrap and then cut in half. Apply glue to the bottom of these pieces and attach them to the bridge. Note: Instead of these pieces, you can use Window Sheet strips (1/2" x 2-1/2").
  13. Fussy cut several flowers from the DSP and adhere them to the bridge pieces, either using the semi-circle Melon Mambo pieces or the Window Sheet strips to set the flowers at varying heights.
  14. Stamp a sentiment on the remaining small Basic White piece and adhere to the front flap of the card.
  15. Use a Blending Brush to add color to the butterflies, then adhere one on each side flap.
  16. Apply Shiny Sequins as desired.
