Let's Go to the Beach and Stretch our Legs AND Dollars!

If you've been stamping with me for some time, then you know I love everything beachy. Why wouldn't I? I live in a coastal community and, let's face it, the beach is beautiful. I don't really care to go in the ocean (too salty and brrrrr) and I don't really care for laying out in the sun on the sand (too hot and not all that good for my skin), but I love taking walks along the beach, especially near sunset. Sunrise is prettier but that means getting up really early and I'm not a fan of that either.

The first two cards shown are what you can make with just the kit and a pair of scissors. To make the third card (or to make the first two using my supply-stretching advice), you'll also need the following paper supplies:

  • Thick Basic White cardstock (5-1/2" x 8 -1/2", scored and folded in half at 4-1/4")
  • Basic White cardstock (3-3/4"x 4", 4-1/4" x 5-1/2", scrap)
  • Lost Lagoon cardstock (5-1/2" x 8 -1/2", scored and folded in half at 4-1/4")
  • Pecan Pie cardstock (4" x 4-1/4")

Card 3 Instructions

  1. Cut one of each of the card bases and cut them in half at the 4-1/4" mark where the score line is.
  2. Set aside one of each panel to create Cards 1 and 2. Stack remaining panels and cut into 1" x 5-1/2" strips. Save the 1/4" strips at the end to decorate the inside of the card and the envelope, if desired.
  3. On the Basic White layer that measures 3-3/4" x 4", adhere one of the 1" strips on the diagonal (it doesn't need to be centered on the diagonal).
  4. Lay a 1" strip of the other pattern next to the first, leaving a small space (1/16-1/8").
  5. Take a third strip and adhere it perpendicularly to the second strip, leaving the same spacing as before. Trim off the excess that extends beyond the Basic White layer. Repeat this, using the excess pieces as much as possible to minimize waste.
  6. Continue as in Step 5 on the other side of the first diagonal strip.
  7. Adhere panel to Pecan Pie layer.
  8. Stamp fern in Lost Lagoon ink onto the front of the Lost Lagoon card base. No need to worry about covering where the strip panel will go.
  9. Adhere the scrappy strip panel to the card front.
  10. Stamp sentiment in Pecan Pie or Lost Lagoon ink and die cut using Something Fancy die. Adhere to card front using dimensionals as desired. As you can see, I liked adding it to the bottom of the scrappy strip panel so that it overlapped the plain card base.
  11. Embellish with Linen thread and/or gems as desired.

Watch me create cards 2 and 3 here (skip to 10:30...you won't miss anything, just chatter about upcoming classes, during which my video froze, but came on just in time for me to craft).

STAMPIN' UP! SUPPLIES

The kit above is all you need to create four of each of the first two cards. To create the alternate card, or use the supply-saving tip I mentioned in the beginning, you'll need the supplies below.
