Mask a Monochromatic, Geometric Masterpiece

Simple doesn't have to mean boring! This card, with it's striking lines and one color makes a statement and whomever receives it will love it.

Measurements (complete list of supplies can be found at the end of this post)
  • Bermuda Bay card base (5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored and folded at 4-1/4")
  • Basic White layers (3-7/8" x 4-1/2", 4" x 5-1/4")
  • Masking paper (enough for four 1/2" strips and size to cover floral image)
  • Black Baker's Twine (13-14")
Directions
  1. Cut four strips of masking paper, each 1/2" wide.
  2. Stamp floral image in the center of the 3-7/8" x 4-1/2" Basic White layer using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  3. Use the die that coordinates with the flower image you used to cut a matching mask from the masking paper.
  4. "Destick" the masking paper by applying it to a clean fabric (like jeans, your shirt, etc.) and removing four or so times each.
  5. Lay a 1/2" strip across the bottom of the , and another at the top of the layer. Laying it on grid paper or lined paper will help ensure all lines are parallel.
  6. Lay the floral mask onto the flower, then place remaining 1/2" masking strips as desired (but parallel to the others.
  7. Using Bermuda Bay ink and a blending brush, apply ink to Basic White layer. You can keep the color uniform throughout, or create an ombre effect by having the color dark on one end and gradually getting lighter as you move to the other end.
  8. Carefully remove masks. They may be reused as long as they remain sticky.
  9. Stamp greeting in one of the white stripes using Memento Tuxedo Black ink.
  10. Add three Classic (black) Matte Dots.
  11. Add black Baker's Twine below greeting and tie in a bow.
  12. Stamp the floral image in the lower right corner of the remaining Basic White layer (for inside), and then stamp it in the lower left corner of the envelope.
  13. Using the ink that remained on the blending brush, "fill" the flower on the inside layer and the envelope.
  14. Stamp a greeting on the Basic White layer.
  15. Adhere inside layer to card.
