Torn Effect Technique
A couple weeks ago, I came across a simply sympathy card that beautifully showcased the New Horizons DSP from the January-June mini catalog. And then I had a need for a couple sympathy cards last week, so I whipped out my DSP and some Basic White cardstock and had some beautiful cards in minutes. Tonight, I made one a little cheerier, then showed several other examples, which can be found at the bottom of this post.
Measurements (for sample above, but other cards shown use different sized layers)
- Thick Basic White card base (5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored in half at 4-1/4")
- Basic White layer (4" x 5-1/4")
- New Horizons DSP (2" x 3-1/2")
- Pear Pizzazz scrap
Directions
- Identify the portion of DSP that you want to showcase.
- Tear a strip 2/3 of the way across the Basic White layer. You should be pulling on the piece that will be folded back.
- Tear off a little of the Basic White strip you've torn so that it's not so bulky when rolled/folded. Adhere down using glue dots.
- Stamp sentiment as desired on the front of the card.
- Apply adhesive to the back of the Basic White layer near the edges of the tear and adhere the DSP so the portion you want showing shows.
- Adhere layer to card base.
- Die cut leaves or other embellishment and adhere to cardfront as desired.
- Add gems.
Here's the video showing just how easy this technique is!
