Torn Effect Technique

A couple weeks ago, I came across a simply sympathy card that beautifully showcased the New Horizons DSP from the January-June mini catalog. And then I had a need for a couple sympathy cards last week, so I whipped out my DSP and some Basic White cardstock and had some beautiful cards in minutes. Tonight, I made one a little cheerier, then showed several other examples, which can be found at the bottom of this post.

Measurements (for sample above, but other cards shown use different sized layers)

  • Thick Basic White card base (5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored in half at 4-1/4")
  • Basic White layer (4" x 5-1/4")
  • New Horizons DSP (2" x 3-1/2")
  • Pear Pizzazz scrap

Directions
  1. Identify the portion of DSP that you want to showcase.
  2. Tear a strip 2/3 of the way across the Basic White layer. You should be pulling on the piece that will be folded back.
  3. Tear off a little of the Basic White strip you've torn so that it's not so bulky when rolled/folded. Adhere down using glue dots.
  4. Stamp sentiment as desired on the front of the card.
  5. Apply adhesive to the back of the Basic White layer near the edges of the tear and adhere the DSP so the portion you want showing shows.
  6. Adhere layer to card base.
  7. Die cut leaves or other embellishment and adhere to cardfront as desired.
  8. Add gems.
Here's the video showing just how easy this technique is!
