Easter Backets in Three Sizes

I recently came across a video by a fellow demonstrator or shared an Easter basket designed by someone else (unnamed). I loved it and decided to recreate it and then alter measurements to create two different sizes.

The video (linked further below) shows you how to create the original basket. The small and medium basket measurements are noted.

Cardstock (and other supply) Measurements:

  • Pale Papaya (8-1/2" x 8-1/2", 1" x 8-1/2", scrap)
  • Basic White (scraps to punch four daisies)

Directions
  1. Beginning with the 8-1/2" square piece of cardstock, score at 2-5/8" on all four sides.
  2. On one end, score at 7/8", 1-3/4", 6-3/4" and 7-5/8" only to the first score line you come to.
  3. Rotate cardstock 180 degrees and repeat Step 2.
  4. Cut the squares on the score lines you began with (the ones at 2-5/8") that are parallel to the score lines you just added, but only to the middle score line.
  5. With an edge that has only two score lines facing toward the top of your Simply Scored Tool, fold one end completely up and put the middle section next to the edge of your Simply Scored tool. Score 1/2" from each edge of the middle section, just until you come to the next score line. Fold over the edge and adhere. These will be the sides of your basket.
  6. Attach the handle of the basket by adding glue to the ends (no more than 1/2") to the outside of the basket sides.
  7. Cut along the smaller score lines that you made in Step 2.
  8. Beginning on one side, fold up the middle flap (side of basket), take the smaller flaps flaps adjacent to the middle one, apply some adhesive to the ends, and adhere to the basket side. You'll find that the corner of each will be in the center of the basket side.
  9. Fold and adhere the next flaps so that they are almost, but not quite, parallel to the bottom of the basket. The corners should go to where the opposite edge of the handle meets the side.
  10. Fold and adhere the last flaps up so that the bottom edge of each flap aligns with the edge of the bottom flap on the opposite side of the basket.
  11. Punch four daisies from Basic White cardstock. Adhere together in pairs, offsetting them to create full daisies.
  12. Punch or die cut a circle from the Pale Papaya scrap and adhere to the middle of the daisies.
  13. Adhere daisies to the sides of the basket, covering up the ends of the flaps.
Video Tutorial (you'll see it's much easier knowing what to do than reading the above directions).

To Create the Medium Basket
  • Begin with a piece of cardstock or DSP that measures 7" x 7". You'll need a piece that measures 3/4" x 7" for the handle.
  • Score in 2-1/4" on all four sides.
  • The score lines for the flaps (Step 2 above) will be at 3/4", 1-1/2", 5-1/2" and 6-1/4".
  • The score line for the sides of the basket (Step 5)will remain the same at 1/2".
  • The angles will be the same for the side flaps, but the "landmarks" of where you fold to may be different.

To Create the Small Basket
  • Begin with a piece of cardstock or DSP that measures 6" x 6". You'll need a piece that measures 1/2" x 6" for the handle.
  • Score in 1-7/8" on all four sides.
  • The score lines for the flaps (Step 2 above) will be at 5/8", 1-1/4", 4-3/4, and 5-3/8".
  • To score the area on the side of the baskets (Step 5), you'll score in 3/8" from both ends.
  • The angles will be the same for the side flaps, but the "landmarks" of where you fold to may be different.
