The Burning Bushes are on FIRE!

I love burning bushes, but did you know that you can no longer purchase them for your landscaping projects? At least in Maine you can't. They are considered an invasive species. I learned that in discussion with a landscaper we consulted at work. They are sooooo beautiful. I'm working to keep our existing bush at work as part of the new plan, since it's already there.

Anyway, I've been itching to create a couple burning bush cards using one of the stamps from The Beauty of Friendship set. And the first one I created was this unique fun fold.

Measurements (full list of supplies at the bottom of this post)

  • Thick Very Vanilla card base (5-1/2" x 8-1/2", scored at 4-1/4")
  • Cherry Cobbler layer (4" x 5-1/4")
  • Green DSP piece from Beauty of the Earth (4-1/4" x 3")
  • Multi-colored DSP from Beauty of the Earth (4" x 4")
  • Very Vanilla (3-3/4" x 5", large scrap, and a latch piece that measures 3/4" x 3", scored at 1-1/2")
  • Early Espresso (large scrap, maybe 5" s 4")
Directions
  1. Cut a "hill" from the green DSP, then adhere to card base.
  2. Use a Blending Brush with Balmy Blue ink pad to add a sky above the hill. Add the same amount of ink to the small Very Vanilla piece.
  3. Affix adhesive sheet scrap to Early Espresso cardstock and die cut the tree. You won't need to have the whole thing backed with adhesive, mostly just the center part that includes the trunk. Adhere to the left side of the card.
  4. Die cut the tree leaves from the multi-colored piece of DSP and adhere to tree. You can back with adhesive sheet first or simply apply adhesive after.
  5. Trim the excess branches/leaves that hang off the card base.
  6. Using the fuller shrub (tree top) image, stamp in Cherry Cobbler on the large Very Vanilla scrap (not the 3-3/4" x 5" layer), reink and then stamp again, slightly off from the first image to create a fuller bush. Repeat to create a second bush.
  7. Using Old Olive ink, stamp the shrub detail image on top of the two shrubs you just created.
  8. Die cut the shrubs.
  9. Adhere one shrub to the left edge of the latch piece. Apply adhesive to the right-hand side of the latch piece. With the fold at the right edge of the card and placed so that the bush is near the top of the hill, close the card so that the latch adheres to the inside of the card.
  10. Adhere Cherry Cobbler layer to the inside of the card, which will cover up the latch.
  11. Using the other shrub, add 2-3 dimensionals to the back of the shrub on the side that will be closest to the tree. Determine placement so that the shrub on the latch can tuck under the raised shrub.
  12. Stamp sentiment in Cinnamon Cider in the sky.
  13. Stamp as desired on Very Vanilla layer (3-3/4" x 5") and adhere to the Cherry Cobbler layer inside.
